‘Jumis’ – the beginning of life, bringer of prosperity and good luck. A Latvian symbol, highlighting our violinist Sabine’s heritage, has been adopted as our own. The ensemble aims to bring music and prosperity to all corners of society.
The ensemble started out life as a piano quartet in 2017, as such our core repertoire revolves around this fabulous instrument combination. In 2020 we expanded to become the ‘flexible ensemble’ we are today with a brand new name. And with this new name comes a new aim. The ensemble explores the gems of chamber music composed for all the different combinations of instruments in the group. From duos, trios – both strings alone and with piano, all the way to the full piano quartet combination.
The UK based ensemble have enjoyed performing in some of London’s prestigious Music Venues, including St John’s Smith Square, Milton Court Concert Hall, the Drapers’ Hall. In 2019 they made their first appearance at the Lake District International Summer Music Festival. They have studied this rich repertoire as postgraduates and a fellow of the Guildhall School of Music and Drama with Carole Presland, Caroline Palmer, Ursula Smith, Matthew Jones, Krysia Osostowicz, Richard Lester, Garfield Jackson and Simon Rowland-Jones. They have enjoyed masterclasses with Renna Kellaway and Ralf Gothóni.
The ensemble runs several strands of projects, aimed to give a unique experience to both well-seasoned concert goers and to brand new audiences alike. With educational workshops, coaching opportunities and insight rehearsal sessions before concerts, you are bound to learn and enjoy music making in ways you never thought possible. The Jumis Ensemble promises to you, high quality international chamber music playing, that will give you an experience to remember forever.
Tickets at £13 or £9 for members of St Peter’s Trust will be available from the White Horse Bookshop one month in advance of each recital.
